The largest of the fine sandy Blue Coast beaches are freely accessible, maintained and (mostly) supervised. They are regularly awarded the blue flag in recognition of excellent water quality for swimming. Camping de l'Arquet Vacation Park is close to the Blue Coast Regional Park marine reserve, 400 meters from Verdon beach.

The Blue Coast

Lake Berre

A 150 km2 stretch of saltwater connected to the sea, Lake Berre runs along the edge of Martigues and several other towns in the area of the Rhône river delta. Created by rising seawater, it is like a little inland sea. It is the second largest saltwater lake in Europe. It is 20 km long and 16.5 km wide, with a surface area of 15,500 hectares. This means 900 million cubic meters of water.
